The challenges we face require new theories and frameworks that can capture the richness and complexity of real-world network data and phenomena.

The concept of scalability has become increasingly important in the era of Big Data, Network Sciences, and Machine Learning. Efficient algorithms are not just desirable; they are essential for characterizing efficient computation. The complexity of these algorithms should be nearly linear or even sub-linear with respect to the problem size.

In this talk, I will discuss some aspects of these challenges and highlight key research advances in multiagent reasoning and learning. Specifically, I will focus on restless multiarmed bandits, influence maximization in social networks, computational game theory, and decision-focused learning.

Achieving social impact often requires methodological advances. I will present results from work around the globe using AI for challenges in public health, such as Maternal and Child care interventions, HIV prevention, and conservation, including endangered wildlife protection.

One key cross-cutting challenge we face is how to effectively deploy our limited intervention resources in these problem domains. With the maturing of AI and multiagent systems research, we have a tremendous opportunity to direct these advances towards addressing complex societal problems.

In conclusion, this talk will demonstrate how nimble robotics can contribute to solving real-world challenges through innovative algorithms, scalable models, and meaningful solutions. By pushing the boundaries of traditional characterizations in computing, we can facilitate local communities and non-profits to directly benefit from advances in AI tools and techniques.
